Jane Cameron Award - **NOTE: 2007 Deadline extended to April 1



The Jane Cameron Award for Artists with Down Syndrome

In memory of Jane and in recognition of her contributions to the arts, the Jane Cameron Archives Committee (JCAC) and the Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS) have established an annual award for a person with Down syndrome who displays expertise in an area of the arts. Visual, written and performing arts are included. The award consists of a cash prize of $500. A medal based upon one of Jane's tapestries, produced by celebrated Canadian artist Jeff de Boer, will also be awarded.

To be considered for the selection, applications must be received by CDSS not later than February 28. Representatives from JCAC and CDSS will evaluate the submissions and agree upon a recipient not later than April 1 each year. The recipient will be notified. The award is made each May at the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society. The winner does not have to be present to receive the award.

To qualify for consideration individuals must:

  • Submit a sample of his or her work in the form of originals, quality reproductions, slides or videos (these will be returned),
  • Submit the completed Jane Cameron Award Submission Form - it is here in both PDF and WORD format,
  • Be a resident of Canada,
  • Have Down syndrome.

Please ensure applications contain the following:

  • Name, telephone number and full address of the artist,
  • Name of contact, telephone number and full address if not the artist.
